DECISION SUPPORT
↗

Find the places an average can hide.

Start a survey. The rover will sample along three safe lanes, flag spatial differences and revisit the same stations.

Spatial range—latest measured THI
Warmest sampled location—awaiting measurement
Revisit comparison—same station · different time

Mobile sampling resolves spatial variation. It complements fixed sensors for continuous alarms; a moving survey is not a simultaneous snapshot of the barn.

OPTIONAL LIQUID MODULE

NH₄⁺ belongs in the sample cup.

Ammonium is measured by a fixed liquid probe at a dedicated dock; the rover collects that result on its visit. This separate, optional channel uses a conditioned sample and needs sampling, calibration, rinsing and matrix validation.

Mobile sensing, not instant coverage

A protected route connects twelve air-sampling stations in a conceptual 36 × 20 m dairy barn. The rover stops, allows a settling period, averages a measurement window and sends a geotagged record. Movement data is shown as a live inlet preview; it does not populate the measured map.

Maps show the latest actual simulated sample per station, with age indications. They do not imply that all stations were measured simultaneously. Station histories compare revisits to the same place; route samples deliberately remain separate.

THI and animal comfort

THI = (1.8T + 32) − (0.55 − 0.0055RH)(1.8T − 26), with T in °C and RH in %. It is derived from measured temperature and relative humidity.

THI does not account for air speed; fans can improve cooling without a large THI change. The 68 review marker is indicative for lactating dairy cows, not a universal limit or diagnosis. Breed, production level, acclimation, air movement and radiant heat also matter. The scenario is not a ventilation design calculation.

Gas versus liquid chemistry

CO₂ represents an NDIR-type measurement; NH₃ represents an ammonia gas sensor. NH₄⁺ is an aqueous ion, so the optional fixed liquid-dock probe supplies a separate sample channel collected by the rover in mg/L NH₄⁺, not ppm gas and not total ammonia nitrogen.

Real deployments require sensor calibration, drift and cross-sensitivity checks, condensation control, protected inlets, suitable sample lines and enough response time. The adjustable dwell here is an accelerated conceptual setting.

Navigation and communication

UWB anchors and a LiDAR scan are visual cues. Navigation follows a planned safe-lane network with a manual stop, not a validated safety system. Animal detection, fail-safe controls, cleaning and biosecurity would be deployment requirements.

Three LoRaWAN gateways illustrate reception diversity. Duplicate receptions become one stored sample. Disable gateways to explore local buffering and recovery. RF strength, delivery and battery values are illustrative.

Model boundary

Synthetic, deterministic environmental gradients with time-dependent ventilation response. This is an interactive concept for discussion, not a calibrated CFD model, a certified gas alarm, or a product performance claim.
