BoniRob was developed by Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Amazone and Bosch. Research configurations included phenotyping, soil measurements and crop treatment. The RemoteFarming.1 configuration demonstrated mechanical weed treatment in 2013 with a remote worker identifying weeds in camera images.
